INTRODUCTION
=============
This document contains information about Wait!, a Control Panel by
Robert Gibson. Information specific to Wait! is given in “Using Wait!”.
Information about the author is provided in the last section, “About the
Author”.
REGISTERING WAIT! AND THE 7.0 PLUS UTILITIES
===========================================
Wait! is not free. Sites using this software in business MUST register
it. Contact the author for site licensing information. If it is for personal
use only, please send a few dollars.
7.0 PLUS Utilities is a package of all System 7.0 utilities I have written.
You can get the disk with all of them NOW (not wait until I decide to
upload the next program) by sending $29.95 to me. This will register
you for all the software, will get you a disk of the software, and an
update to the PLUS Utilities when it rolls around. It’s a pretty good
deal. You should register your software, anyway, so why not do it
like this? And it’s a lot cheaper this way.
See the documentation which should be accompanying this file for
more information on the 7.0 PLUS Utilities. A registration form should
also accompany this file. Please use it to register the software.
USING WAIT!
===========
These sections are fairly detailed descriptions of how and why you may
use Wait!. It does not necessarily describe the only ways you can use
the program.
• If you use Wait!, please please please send me a note (and a few bucks
to keep my Compuserve account alive). My addresses (post and e-mail)
are given below in “About the Author”.
What Does Wait! Do?
------------------
• Wait! provides you with a means of changing the Finder’s rename delay
through a Control Panel, and without having to restart your machine.
• The rename delay is the amount of time the Finder waits after you have
clicked on a file’s name before allowing you to edit it.
Using Wait!
----------
• Wait! requires System 7.0 or higher to function.
• Double-click on the Wait! icon to open the Control Panel window.
• To turn off the delay entirely, uncheck the Delay button. To turn
the delay on again, check the button.
• To modify the rename delay, make sure the Delay button is checked.
Then select whether you want the rename delay to be the normal,
factory setting, half, or a quarter of the factory setting. If you want
it any smaller, you may as well turn it right off, since you can hardly
tell the difference.
• Incidentally, the rename delay is dependent on the double-click time.
• Modifying the open Finder is not completely safe. Occasionally, a dirty
(meaning modified since its last re-launch) may crash sometime after
it is changed. To completely avoid crashes, press the Quit button.
You can also quit directly from the cdev, by pressing Quit now. If you
don't quit, there is a small risk of crashing. To avoid the Quit alert box,
hold down the shift key when you close the cdev or open a new Finder
after you have modified the current one. If you have any other open
applications, the Finder will not re-launch until you have quit from them
all. Modifying a closed Finder (not the current Finder) does not require
that you quit.
• Wait! may not function properly with new versions of the Finder (after 7.0).
However, modifications will be made to the program when new versions
appear to overcome these problems.
• Although Wait! is a Control Panel, it does not have to be in the Control
Panels folder to function properly.
• If an error occurs while using Wait!, you will see an appropriate alert.
